Friday Beer: Stellenbosch Brewing Co. Eike Stout

Welcome to life after the Cape Town Festival of Beer. We’ve taken most of the week to recover but we’re back! And we’re back with a particularly special beer. We would like to introduce you to the Stellenbosch Brewing Co and their Eike Stout. Why is it so special you may ask? Not only did it take home Best Dark at the Festival, it also took home the title of Best on Show. No small feet when you’re going head-to-head against some of the big breweries.

The stout was judged Best on Show by an independent body of BJCP judges who over the course of two days had to judge just over 200 beers. A particularly difficult task given the calibre of beers we now see in South Africa. That makes the Elke Stout our Featured Beer for the week and the one you need to try this week.

Now, they have given us a 4-pack of this remarkable beer to give away and, unlike the Drifter Ocean Aged from last week, you would be excused for not sharing (we wouldn’t). So, to stand a chance at winning all you need to do is tweet the below:

I’m in to win Best of Show from #CTFOB17 with @BarleyAndHopsZA, it’s so good I won’t be sharing my @stelliesBeer Eike Stout. Read about it here http://bit.ly/eikestout

Simple as that. Started by brewer Bruce Collins in 2013 this brewery is out there hitting with the big boys. In 2015 they opened a taproom on Klein Joostenberg farm, so if you find yourself out in that direction make sure you pay them a visit. Until next week, cheers and good luck!
