Friday Beer: Jack Black Fresh Hop IPA

Back in March we loaded into the cars from Cape Town and set for George. We were of course on #HopTour2018. We spent the day at the SAB Hop Farms that only operate for 3 months out of the year. The very week before that however Ross McCulloch, Founder of Jack Black, did that very trip with his brother. They were however not going for the Hop Tour. They were going on a raid.

The Beer

With the help of the local famers Ross and his brother hand picked the fresh, whole cone African Queen Hops. The name of this hop varietal also being the inspiration behind the, quite frankly, beautiful label design. We would gladly have this poster hanging on the Barley&Hops walls.

Because the hops needed to be fresh they basically picked the hops, jumped back in the car, and made haste back to the brewery. And, if you have ever smelt fresh African Queen hops this beer is full of them, smells great. Now, because the farm only operates for three months Jack Black can only do a single limited brew each year. This is the second year they have brewed it, and as far as we know, it’s only available at the brewery and at very few select outfits.

All this is why we thought this would be the one to feature this week. Having only launched today you best make arrangements if you want to try this seasonal Jack Black Fresh Hop IPA brew.

If you do manage to get your hands on this beer please let us know your thoughts in the comments below. And remember, there is still time to enter the April Beer and Swag giveaway with Metal Lane and Old Potters.

You can find Jack Black on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Cheers!
