Woodstock Winter Beer Festival 2018

Come the 4th of August the Fourth annual Woodstock Winter Beer Festival will be descending upon the Castle of Good Hope. Managed by the scallywags over at the Drifter Brewing Co this Festival focuses on once off brews done specially for the Festival. We’ve talked about the “winter warmer” brews recently (Camelthorn and Woodstock), so expect a lot of barrel aged, high alcohol beers. Just what you need to keep warm.

With 16 breweries confirmed for attendance there will be no shortage to go around. And, while the beer is absolutely the main attraction, there will also be food pods, music and games. For a Saturday afternoon in Cape Town it does sound like a mighty fine idea.

The Breweries

Early Bird tickets have already sold out but you can still buy online. They are R80 and are available on Quicket. Get them online, avoid the queues and the extra R20 it will cost you at the door.

To top it, when the crew at Drifter are involved they always go the extra mile to do their bit for those who are less well off. So, this year they are collecting donations for NOAH (Neighborhood Old Age Homes), an organization providing independent services and advocacy to pensioners living in the area. You can make a monetary donation when you buy your ticket or bring the following to the festival to donate:

  • Non-perishable food (canned goods, oil, beans, rice)
  • Unwanted clothes or shoes that are in good condition for them to sell in their second-hand shop
  • Blankets, jackets and items for the winter season

Now to the finale. We have a pair of tickets to give away and we’re going to keep it simple. To enter just comment below with which brewery you are most excited to see at the Festival. Winner will be selected and contacted on Monday the 23rd of July. Good luck!

  1. As always I am most excited to see what Rory at Aegir has to offer. He always brings the fire and is a specialist when it comes to winter-inspired beers.

  2. I am excited about Old Potters Inn, Mountain Brewing Co., Aegir Project and Shackleton Brewing Co. It’s hard to choose. But I do really want to try the marshmallow stout from the Aegir Project! Cool! Looking forward to this!

  3. This is going to be an incredible event, with amazing brews fomtom some amazing g brewers. However I am keen to find out more about Shakelton Brewing Co. and some their ales😉🤙🏼🤙🏼

  4. Old Potters Inn. I haven’t tasted their beers 🍻 before and have a mate out that way. Need to take a trip out to Greyton after the festival!

  5. Aegir because I keep hearing about them here in Pretoria yet I haven’t managed to snag anything by them since I got here!

  6. Probably Afro Caribbean Brewing. Greg makes some wild beers on the best of days so there must be something special cooking up for this event.

  7. I’m excited to see what all the breweries have to offer. BUT mostly I can’t wait for my favourite brewery Afro Carribean to bring some awesomeness to the festival!

  8. Keen to taste what is on offer from ALL the breweries!! Our mate lands in Cape Town from Ireland, and we are hopping straight onto a MyCiti bus at the airport and heading straight to the festival!

  9. The Old Potters Inn is best enjoyed in the pictuerisque town of Greyton but I am eager to try it in the beautiful mother city. Oh and that marshmallow stout entices me.
