Friday Beer – Lagunitas Brewing Co Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale

We live in hope that over time we see more beers like this weeks Friday Beer become more readily available in South Africa. Beers that are produced from American Craft Breweries that, thanks to “Big Beer”, can be bought into SA at costs that are not nausea inducing. We once spent over R200 for a Dogfish Head at Banana Jam. We still feel ill about it. Anyway, onto this weeks Friday Beer, it is the Lagunitas Brewing Co Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale.

Lagunitas Brewing Co Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale

We featured the Lagunitas Brewing Co IPA back in September last year and maintain it is a great IPA. It was so popular when it came out that Heineken who imports it to SA couldn’t keep up with demand. There was a 6-month waiting list on the beer, something they have since rectified. The IPA is now readily available at just about every good bottlestore. Even, as we found out recently, at the Biggest Little Beer shop which is synonymous with being picky as to which beers they stock.

And we’re glad to report that this lesson in stock includes the Lagunitas Brewing Co Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale. You’re not going to be buying cases of the stuff but to pick up a couple at your Liquor store should be very easy. Our local Liquor City Claremont does appear to have several cases available.

Way smooth and silky with a nice wheatly-esque-ish-ness. A truly unique style featuring a strong hop finish on a silky body. A hoppy pale wheat ale that is great for IPA fans but so smooth that the hefeweizen fans dig it too.

Anyone that has been to the States and been on a craft beer binge will have recognized that their beers tend to be stronger. MUCH stronger. While South African beers may be between 4 – 5.5% ABV they have no problem pumping that right up. And the Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale is a great example of that coming in at a healthy 7.5%.

We can’t offer any social feeds as they do not have any local channels but please do get back to us in the comments or on social and let us know what you think of this beer.

Cheers!
