Drifter Brewing Co

When you walk into The Drifter Brewing Co, it feels like you’ve stepped onto a ship setting sail for beer paradise. By day, the brewery is a beer manufacturing warehouse – by night the lights dim and the tasting room opens up with views of Table Mountain from the bar. The space is also available for venue hire.

Started in 2015, Drifter is a nautical-themed brewery based in Woodstock, Cape Town. The name comes from a 43-foot sailing yacht that Nick’s parents built from scratch in their garden during the late ’70s. Once finished, they sailed around the world on Drifter for almost ten years. After returning to Cape Town and settling down to have children, Nick’s parents decided to sell the boat in 1982. In March 2017, the boat drifted into Nick’s life by chance and circumstance and is once again owned by the family – 35 years later.

Recently, the Drifter Brewing Co made history as the first company in South Africa to run a successful Equity Crowdfunding campaign. The company invited the SA community to ‘own the beer they’re drinking’ by investing a minimum of R1000 into the brewery. After raising more than R4 million, Drifter is ready to continue expanding and begin exporting into the international market. With the motto adventure, creativity and craftsmanship – Drifter has made its mark in the South African craft beer scene. Whether its sinking bottles at the bottom of the ocean floor or raising capital through a never-been-done-before campaign, there’s no challenge too great for this crew!
