Having been a quiet week in beer it’s great to feature a beer that’s not even available on the shelves yet. We reached out to owner and brewer Phillip van den Berg to get some of the details on his brewery and his beer. So read on, the Faith Brewing Co Saison is our beer to try this week.
Based at Gunners Park in Epping Industria Phil has been brewing since 2015. However, like most new breweries it took another two years for his license to come through. The brewery runs alongside his other business, and at just 20 square meters it is “the smallest licensed nano brewery in South Africa”. On the name Phil had this to say,
As the saying goes “faith is taking the first step even if you don’t see the whole staircase”. Being a nano brewery, and one of South Africas smallest licensed breweries, Believing and having Faith in our craft has been at the core of our operation. Why the name Faith Brewing you might ask? Well why not? . The question you have to ask yourself is do you have the faith to believe in yourself, faith in someone else, faith in humanity, just something other than what the world tells you. Having that faith in what you do and your strong belief that you could do something even if it does not seem possible, now that is the meaning of true faith.
Phil tends to float towards Belgium inspired farmhouse ales. The only one he brews regularly is the Faith Brewing Co Saison with his other brews coming out for events. If he has leftovers he sells those so count yourself lucky if you have tried them. His full line up:
- Saison de Foi (Season of Faith)
Producing just 1200l a month the beers are available exclusively through Phil. You can get hold of him through their website and get your requests in. Do it quick otherwise you may find yourself waiting a while.
