Friday Beer – Chester’s Lager

The Lager train continues this week with a bitter sweet beer from a legend who passed away not that long ago. He was not only a Rugby World Cup winning Springbok but also a man who did far more than was ever asked of him to give back to the community. And that’s the crux behind how this beer came to be. It’s Chester’s Lager and you’re helping communities by drinking this beer.

Chester's Lager

Chester Williams (RIP), had multiple ventures on the go at any point. We were fortunate enough to spend some time with him through a Fundraiser we operate with the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Fund, and what a man. An absolute gem of a human being. Amongst his exploits he started the Chester Williams Foundation with the goal to support:

  • Disadvantaged children
  • Education for children
  • Leadership skills for children
  • Health for children
  • Rugby development and mentorship for young people
  • Social housing projects
  • The Chester Williams Squatter Camp in Paarl, South Africa

And with this in mind he used his status as one of the most recognisable players in the world to do some good. Chester’s Lager (and IPA) were brewed with the intention of selling at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan. The process of which would go to the Foundation to do some good. Unfortunately Chester himself never made it to Japan. The beer however did.

Chester’s Lager and IPA are both contract brewed by The Italian Job Brewery. Last appearing on the Barley&Hops blog back in January 2018 it’s nice to have a reappearance. So, if not to simply enjoy a beer and support a cause, buy a few and ensure you raise a pint to a man who did everything he could to give back to South Africa. Enjoy sinking into Chester’s Lager.

Cheers!
